Loving your non-standard approach to the topic!

And: maaan, can I hear the echoes of Chopin in Hania Rani's music now - I've never made that connection before... The repetitions and insistence on things is something I've been fascinated by - in her music, but also in general. And it does take some courage to do it, to not be worried about what people expect and just do your own thing. I guess, that is, in a way, what is epic about it.

What you've been talking about reminds me of some dance theater performances I've seen - interestingly, all coming from non-Western countries (Kongo, Mexico, Maori New Zealand/Samoa in my specific cases) - that put me in total awe precisely by being insistent on a different approach to time (meaning: really taking your time in things presented on stage); with endlessly repeating patterns as well as slow, intentional precision, and basically breaking all the rules of a standard, crowd-pleasing performance. These bold decisions were able to make atmospheres that would otherwise be impossible to create.

I have been drawn to repeating patterns a lot as well - in music and beyond. In music, admittedly, some of it is based on my lack of skill in composing - but a big part of it is just fascination with following something deeper and deeper... Till it devours you, digests you, and shits you out on the other end (forgive the metaphor, lol). It literally changes you. And I think that is what epic is about as well.

Here's to being epic and making bold choices!

Yeah, love it! Nils Frahm’s “spaces” also has that repetitive insistence. And definitely a lot of Hania’s stuff. Those dance performances sound really intriguing too

This was so good! I absolutely loved the audio version with your music in the background. Amazing! I didn't go to music school, just studied privately with a couple teachers, so I don't have much music history. I loved learning all this. Loved that I could relate the way I compose music and improvise. I can't wait for your next episode. Very inspiring!
